Paul Gascoigne found not guilty of sexual assault on train

Paul Gascoigne appeared at Teesside Crown Court in a sexual assault trial on Thursday.
Paul Gascoigne played for England at the 1990 World Cup and 1996 European Championship.

Former England international Paul Gascoigne has been found not guilty of sexual assault after kissing a woman on a train.

The 52-year-old has also been cleared of an alternative charge of assault by beating.

Gascoigne denied the charge of sexual assault at Teesside Crown Court and said he kissed the woman in order to boost her confidence.

The initial incident took place on a service from York to Newcastle in August 2018.

The court heard Gascoigne's act had not been a sexual one, though he had been "naive" in kissing the woman.
