Newcastle, West Brom weigh up move for Dortmund forward Andre Schurrle

Andre Schurrle
Andre Schurrle could leave Borussia Dortmund this month, with two Premier League sides credited with an interest.

Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion are exploring moves to sign Borussia Dortmund forward Andre Schurrle on loan, sources have told ESPN FC.

Newcastle and West Brom are both in the market for striking reinforcements before the transfer window closes next week as they look to bring in a forward to help fire them to safety in the Premier League.

Both clubs are struggling at the wrong end of the Premier League table with Newcastle netting 22 goals in their 24 games to date, while the Baggies have scored just 19 in 24.

Schurrle's future at Dortmund has been the subject of speculation since the transfer window opened, with the Germany international struggling to hold down a place in the side. The 27-year-old has failed to make the desired impact at Dortmund since joining the club from Wolfsburg in 2016 and they are ready to listen to offers for him.

Dortmund's preference would be to sell Schurrle, but both Newcastle and West Brom are looking at an initial loan with a view to a permanent deal.

Schurrle has played in the Premier League before after a two-year spell with Chelsea between 2013-15 and he is reportedly interested in a move back to England.
