Australian FA aware of security concerns in Dushanbe

SYDNEY -- Football Federation Australia says it is aware of the tense security situation in the Tajikistan capital of Dushanbe just four days before the Socceroos' World Cup qualifying match at the city's Central Stadium.

Armed groups led by a disaffected deputy defense minister mounted attacks Friday in and near Dushanbe that left at least 17 dead, authorities said. It is not yet clear what lay behind the attacks.

FFA spokesman David Mason told The Associated Press by email Saturday that "we're across the situation, but no details on if the game will be affected."

Australia is scheduled to play Tajikistan on Tuesday.

The Australians were scheduled to leave for the region Friday night from Perth, Western Australia state, where the Socceroos beat Bangladesh 5-0 in a World Cup qualifier on Thursday.
