Germain, Boschilia bag braces as Monaco go two points clear

Edison Cavani scored both goals in PSG's win over Nantes, bringing his Ligue 1 goal tally to 20.
Gabriel Boschilia scored Monaco's two opening goals on Sunday.

Striker Valere Germain and midfielder Gabriel Boschilia got two goals each as free-scoring Monaco thrashed struggling Lorient 4-0 in Ligue 1 on Sunday to move two points clear of Nice at the top.

Monaco have scored more league goals than any other team in Europe's top five leagues and this latest rout took the season's tally to 64 in 21 games -- and 90 in 34 overall. It was also the ninth time this season that Monaco have scored at least four goals, following last weekend's impressive 4-1 win at...

Mario Balotelli claims of racial abuse backed by teammate Alassane Plea

Nice returned to the summit of Ligue 1 for the time being after fighting back to earn a point at Bastia.

Mario Balotelli has been backed by teammate Alassane Plea, who said he heard Bastia supporters racially abusing the Nice striker during Friday night's 1-1 draw.

On Saturday, Balotelli described the abuse he heard at the Armand Cesari stadium and complained that the French league had not acted swiftly.

And on Sunday, Plea -- Balotelli's strike partner -- told French football show Telefoot he had heard the abuse.

"Yes, I can confirm it. We heard it during the warmup [and] during the game as well,...

Referee explains Marco Verratti's booking for 'trickery'

Johan Hamel booked Marco Verratti, centre, for trickery, leading to PSG objections led by Thiago Motta, second left.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti was given an unusual yellow card on Saturday for anti-sporting behavior known in the game as "trickery," leading the referee to explain his decision.

Verratti was booked by referee Johan Hamel after dropping to his knees and using his head to send the ball trickling back to his goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, who could pick it up because his teammate had not passed the ball back with his feet.

PSG boss Unai Emery thinks Julian Draxler's injury is not serious

Edison Cavani scored both goals in PSG's win over Nantes, bringing his Ligue 1 goal tally to 20.

Paris Saint-Germain coach Unai Emery has admitted the extent of Julian Draxler's injury sustained in Saturday's 2-0 win away at FC Nantes is unknown for now but the Spaniard hopes it is not serious.

Draxler limped off in the 68th minute, moments after sitting down clutching his left calf muscle. But Emery said after the game: "I do not think it is serious. I hope it is just a knock."

Edinson Cavani brace boosts PSG to within point of Ligue 1 lead

Edison Cavani scored both goals in PSG's win over Nantes, bringing his Ligue 1 goal tally to 20.

Edinson Cavani maintained his prolific goal scoring form with both goals as Paris Saint-Germain climbed to within a point of Ligue 1 leaders Nice following a 2-0 win at Nantes.

Uruguay international Cavani opened the scoring midway through the first half and made it 26 goals in as many matches for PSG in all competitions this season by adding a second in the 65th minute.

The victory lifts Unai Emery's side level on points with second-placed Monaco and one behind Nice, who were held to a 1-1 draw...
