Paris St Germain newcomer David Luiz cannot wait to get stuck into Ligue 1 duty even though his role in the season opener against Reims will be a supporting one from the sidelines.

The Brazil defender, who was signed from Chelsea, finally linked up with his new team-mates earlier this week having spent the first half of the summer on World Cup duty in his homeland.

And although he will not take part as PSG begin their title defence at Reims on Friday night, Luiz is keen to return to full speed as soon as possible as he embarks on a new challenge in France.

``I am very happy to be here in Paris,'' he told a press conference. ``I hope to get back on the pitch as quickly as possible and show what I can do.

``The club and the city are fantastic and I've felt a lot of affection. This project is wonderful and I have the opportunity to enjoy it and dream bigger. I will give everything.

``I want to get out there as soon as possible. I hope to be up to 90 or 100 per cent next week. I'm really eager to play in Paris, where I played my first game in Europe. I love football and I can not stay sidelined long.''

PSG were head and shoulders above the rest of Ligue 1 last season, finishing nine points clear of Monaco to make it back-to-back trophies.

It will be a daunting task for Jean-Luc Vasseur then as he leads Reims out for the first time in the league following his summer appointment.

Vasseur replaced Hubert Fournier in June and pre-season preparations have not gone to plan for the new coach, who has endured a run of six friendlies without a win.

Yet Vasseur feels no fear in opening the new campaign at home to the defending champions.

``We know they will be dangerous, as we saw against Guingamp (in the Trophee des Champions),'' he told a press conference.

``Everybody talks about Zlatan Ibrahimovic but there have a huge number of good players, so we will have to be careful.

``But we know how PSG play and we will try things out to see if we can find the right formula.''

Vasseur's cause will not be helped by a worrying injury list which sees Anthony Weber (Achilles), Alexi Peuget, Yann Benedick, Nicolas De Preville, Antoine Conte (all knee) and Atila Turan (ankle) all miss out.
