- Marshall: Dignified defeat for Chivas

Pep Guardiola's men controlled the majority of possession and took the lead in the 10th minute when Pizarro slotted home Franck Ribery's corner.

Pizarro nearly had two more goals in the first half as the Bundesliga champions took control.

Claudio Pizarro's goal gave Bayern the victory on Thursday in New Jersey.

Carlos Fierro nearly equalised for Chivas in the 81st minute, but Bayern keeper Tom Starke saved to preserve the win.

Xherdan Shaqiri played his first game for Bayern this preseason after taking time off following the World Cup, but most of the German stars and Arjen Robben were still missing.

American winger Julian Green did not play after picking up a knock in training.
