Augsburg sign Karlsruher SC's Philipp Max as Baba Rahman nears exit

The ESPN FC crew react to news that Chelsea are reportedly in talks with signings Augsburg left-back Rahman Baba.

Augsburg have completed the signing of left-back Philipp Max from Karlsruher SC, paving the way for Chelsea target Baba Rahman's exit.

Max, 21, moves to the Bundesliga side on a two-year contract, with an option to extend the agreement, after agreeing a fee reported to be in the region of €3.6 million.

Football returns to Germany as Magdeburg and co. seek renaissance

Magdeburg are back in Germany's third tier and ready for the new season as professional football in the country resumes this week.

On Friday, professional league football returns in Germany. Under floodlights, old rivals Duisburg and Kaiserslautern open proceedings in the second division. It's a fixture that evokes memories of what some people call the good old days, because both clubs were Bundesliga mainstays for decades.

Meanwhile, 250 miles east of Duisburg and one level below the second division, the "3. Liga" -- the third division -- resumes normal service with a match between Magdeburg and Erfurt.
