Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer: I am orchestrator of our defence

United States head coach Jurgen Klinsmann explains why he thinks Manuel Neuer is the best goalkeeper in world today.
USA head coach Jurgen Klinsmann believes countryman Manuel Neuer should have won the 2014 Ballon d'Or, but paid tribute to eventual winner Cristiano Ronaldo.

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has said he shares duties with coach Pep Guardiola, explaining: "He orchestrates our attacks, and I our defence."

Neuer, 29, told FAZ his role under Guardiola was different to that under predecessor Jupp Heynckes, meaning that "we as a team no longer understand it as 10 plus one but as 11 players in the buildup play."

ESPN FC's Craig Burley believes that first-team games are key for Julian Green's growth, while Shaka Hislop adds that the pressure on the teenager to perform continues to build.

Rafael van der Vaart said he understood Hamburg's decision not to extend his stay as he was again linked with a move to MLS club Sporting Kansas City.

Midfielder Van der Vaart will not be offered a new contract when his current deal with the Bundesliga strugglers expires at the end of the season.

The 32-year-old former Spurs midfielder told Bild: "It's not a problem and also no surprise.

"Maybe it's better for both sides. There is a time to come and a time to go."

Earlier this month, Sporting Kansas...

Bayern Munich finance director: No player has turned us down

The ESPN FC panel discuss the recent reports of Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho becoming the highest paid manager in the world of football, and whether or not Pep Guardiola should be ranked higher.

Bayern Munich finance director Jan-Christian Dreesen has told German football magazine kicker that no player has turned down a move to the Bundesliga champions during his time at the club.

Dreesen, 47, joined Bayern in February 2013, during the season that saw them become the first German club ever to win the Treble.

That period also saw a dramatic increase in financial turnover, which rose from €373.4 million in 2012 to €528.7m two years later -- a 41 percent rise he called "just incredible."
