New Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti handed Carl Zeiss Jena chance

ESPN FC's Paul Mariner respond to Bayern Munich urging Mario Gotze to leave.
Carlo Ancelotti will join the club on July 1 officially.

Bayern Munich's new coach Carlo Ancelotti will get a swift chance to banish the demons of one of the bitterest defeats of his illustrious playing career when the German Cup holders begin their defence against Carl Zeiss Jena in the first round in eight weeks' time.

The trip to Eastern Germany to face the fourth-tier side in the Ernst-Abbe-Sportfeld stadium will no doubt bring back some painful memories for the 57-year-old Italian, who takes over as Bayern coach from Pep Guardiola on July 1.

The Catalan cried at the final whistle, undoubtedly moved by the dramatic nature of his second domestic double in three years. Repeatedly pressed to explain his tears, he eventually said...

Jerome Boateng, Douglas Costa lead as Bayern Munich win German Cup

Bayern Munich sealed their 18th German Cup success after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Borussia Dortmund.

In a cagey final, chances were at a premium at both ends but BVB's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will rue missing a golden chance to snatch victory at the end of normal time. Goalkeeper Roman Burki made outstanding saves in extra time to keep the score deadlocked and somewhat inevitably it was on to the lottery of penalties. Arturo Vidal, Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller all converted...
