Hannover's Hugo Almeida banned three matches for elbow
Hannover will be without striker Hugo Almeida for the next three matches after he was banned for elbowing Augsburg's Dominik Kohr in last Sunday's 1-0 defeat.
The incident, which was not seen by referee Daniel Siebert, was picked up by the television cameras, and the German Football Association's (DFB) disciplinary committee has taken action based on that evidence.
The 31-year-old Portuguese forward will therefore miss Hannover's fixtures with Stuttgart, Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen.
"I'm really sorry for the club, the fans and the team for what has happened," said Almeida on his club's website.
"It was an unnecessary and stupid reaction. I will try to make amends for it with my performances once my ban is over."
Almeida scored on his Hannover debut but has failed to find the back of the net in their three games since.
Hannover have lost their last eight matches and are currently eight points adrift of safety at the bottom of the Bundesliga.
