Ballymena United ball-boy sees red for over-celebrating a goal

Ballymena United came from behind to rescue a 1-1 draw against Coleraine in their League of Ireland derby clash on Tuesday night.

As is the done thing these days, the match was live-tweeted for the duration, with Ballymena's official account dutifully keeping fans abreast of the action in text form.

Derry City captain Ryan McBride dies aged 27

Ryan McBride played for Derry City since 2011.

Derry City FC captain Ryan McBride has died, the Irish Football Association has said.

The 27-year-old's cause of death is not yet known.

The Irish FA tweeted: "Thoughts tonight with the family of Ryan McBride and everyone involved with @derrycityfc."

His death comes a day after McBride led his team to a 4-0 victory over Drogheda United.

Drogheda United said on Twitter that they would "would like to offer our deepest condolences to @derrycityfc on the sudden passing of their captain Ryan McBride."

League of Ireland veteran retires in style with lovely farewell letter

Pat Flynn has had a long career in Ireland.

Bringing an emotional end to his 14-year career, Irish right-back Pat Flynn officially called time on his playing days over the weekend.

Never the most glamorous of players, Flynn still represented most of the League of Ireland's biggest clubs, winning the First Division title with Longford Town in 2014 to add to the two consecutive titles he won with Shamrock Rovers in 2010 and 2011.

Finn Harps' Kevin McHugh severs finger in accident with fence

Irish footballer Kevin McHugh has had surgery to try to save his finger after his wedding ring got caught in a fence.

The Finn Harps captain said he was chasing after a football when the accident occurred. He then drove himself to the hospital.

While driving, he tweeted a photo of the injury and wrote: "Think that's my season over."

Arsene Wenger advises Arsenal scout to take Shamrock Rovers chance

Arsenal scout Stephen Bradley says he was given Arsene Wenger's blessing to take over as caretaker manager of Irish club Shamrock Rovers.

Bradley, 31, a former Arsenal academy player, is now the club's main scout for Ireland and Northern Ireland.

And so when he was asked to take temporary charge of Rovers after Pat Fenlon was sacked he felt he needed to ask the Arsenal manager first.
