Mexican clubs open to combined Liga MX-Major League Soccer competition

ESPN FC's Alejandro Moreno weighs in on the challenges Matias Almeyda will face in his first season at the helm of the San Jose Earthquakes.

Liga MX club presidents are looking north to the United States and aren't discounting a combined North American league at some point in the future.

"For me, the similarities that Mexico has with the north [United States] are greater than towards the south and I'm a loyal believer that we should consolidate our alliance with the MLS and make a really strong league that can compete with Asia, Europe or anywhere," Santos Laguna president Alejandro Irarragorri said during a conference in the Sports...

Nashville SC reveals name, colors and crest ahead of joining MLS in 2020

Nashville SC confirmed the crest it will use upon joining MLS in 2020.
Nashville SC confirmed its name, colors and crest on Wednesday night.

Nashville's Major League Soccer franchise has an identity: Nashville Soccer Club.

The expansion city announced its team's name, crest and club colors on Wednesday night at a party in downtown Nashville in front of 2,000 fans.

The name goes unchanged from the moniker that the club used for the past two seasons in the United Soccer League, and will continue to use in the USL Championship in 2019 ahead of a move to MLS in 2020.

The crest features "themes of sound and energy," the club said in a statement,...

Portland Timbers 'moving on' from pursuit of Tigres Eduardo Vargas - source

Ahead of the 2019 season, coaches from around MLS share their views on how to define success in the evolving league.

The Portland Timbers are prepared to move on from their pursuit of Tigres forward Eduardo Vargas, a club source with direct knowledge of the negotiations told ESPN FC.

The Timbers' bid for Vargas was thought to include a transfer fee just under $10 million, but the source indicated that Portland's offer was actually $8.5m including incentives.

The source added that Tigres has a higher valuation of the player, but are keen to move Vargas, and could circle back to the Timbers if they decide...

LAFC sign goalkeeper Pablo Sisniega from La Liga club Real Sociedad

Los Angeles FC have announced the signing of Mexican goalkeeper Pablo Sisniega from Spanish side Real Sociedad.

Sisniega, 23, played 38 times for Real Sociedad's development team in the Spanish third division and registered 14 clean sheets following his debut in 2014.

LAFC general manager John Thorrington said Sisniega will bring "valuable experience" from his time in Spain and will add depth and competition to the squad.

"Pablo is a young and exciting goalkeeper with a bright future ahead...

LA Galaxy's Ibrahimovic vows to 'break every record in MLS'

In typical Zlatan Ibrahimovic fashion, he tells ESPN FC that his LA Galaxy will be successful in 2019 and discusses his 500th career goal.
The ESPN FC crew react to Ashley Cole's transfer to former teammate Frank Lampard's Derby County from the LA Galaxy.
Take the mic away? Avoid him? Kick him? MLS coaches have their (tongue-in-cheek) say as to how to stop the great man.

LA Galaxy forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic has said he is looking to "break every single record" in Major League Soccer.

The former Manchester United man was speaking at the launch of his club's new kit and made one of his boldest predictions yet.

"This season I will bring something for you," the 37-year-old told reporters. "Because they say I'm old, I am looking to break every record in MLS this season."

In Ibrahimovic's first campaign with the Galaxy, he amassed 22 goals and 10 assists in 27 appearances...
