Sources: Chicharito prefers West Ham over MLS

Mexico international Javier Hernandez is set to stay with West Ham United through this summer and isn't eyeing a move to MLS at this stage of his career, according to ESPN FC sources.

Mexico's all-time top scorer has been the subject of interest from MLS clubs, Brazilian side Flamengo and Fiorentina, but different sources have told ESPN FC that he will continue in London unless there is an unexpected twist in the remaining days of the Premier League transfer window, which ends on Aug. 8.

The 31-year-old striker known as "Chicharito" was considering leaving West Ham earlier in the summer and the club even set a price of between $10 and 15 million for his services, as he only has one year remaining on his contract. However, the situation has changed following the departures of Marko Arnautovic, Lucas Perez and Andy Carroll.

West Ham have signed Sebastien Haller in a record deal to bolster their attack, but Manuel Pellegrini is still keen to keep Hernandez and the club have shown confidence in the Mexican by handing him the No. 9 shirt for the upcoming season.

The former Real Madrid and Bayern Leverkusen striker has been linked with MLS for years. Chicago Fire, Inter Miami and Austin FC are some of the clubs that have been mentioned in recent times, but sources stressed to ESPN FC that the Guadalajara native is more focused on football than ever following the birth of his daughter and is planning to extend his career in Europe for at least three more seasons.

Hernandez has been in China with West Ham and started The Hammers' last game of the Premier League Asia Trophy against Newcastle United.

ESPN FC's Tom Marshall contributed to this report.
