Goals from Elias Hernandez and Martin Cauteruccio propelled Cruz Azul to a 2-0 victory over Monterrey in Wednesday's Copa MX final.

Cruz Azul had the better chances in Monterrey's Estadio BBVA Bancomer and won the game with relative ease, after the Mexico City side weathered some early pressure from Rayados.

The cup victory should provide La Maquina with a boost heading into the 2018 Apertura Liga MX playoffs, with Cruz Azul -- one of Mexico's "big four" teams -- looking to end a title drought stretching...

Rafa Marquez: Atlas DNA similar to that of Barcelona

New Atlas sporting president Rafa Marquez wants his club to follow the Barcelona model.

Marquez was formally presented in his new position at his first club Atlas on Tuesday, just weeks after the 39-year-old captained Mexico at his fifth World Cup.

"I'm thankful for the trust placed in me," said Marquez in a news conference. "I'm starting a new stage with the team in which I took my first steps [as a pro] and in which I finished my career.

"It's a team I love and there is a lot of responsibility.

El Tri manager Juan Carlos Osorio's future is still unknown and Ferretti's name has already been mentioned as a possible replacement due to his experience and success in the Mexican game.

But Ferretti said he would be unlikely to accept the job.

Matias Almeyda: I wouldn't refuse job offer to manage Mexico or Argentina

Matias Almeyda would not turn down the chance to manage Mexico or his native Argentina, should the opportunity arise in the coming weeks.

The 44-year-old former River Plate player and manager left Liga MX side Chivas last month after a successful period in charge culminated in winning the CONCACAF Champions league back in April.

Almeyda has continued living in Guadalajara since departing the club and would likely be one of the options should Juan Carlos Osorio's contract with El Tri not be renewed.
