Pachuca's Hirving Lozano leaves on stretcher after injury vs. Tijuana

Lozano injury vs Tijuana 170303
Hirving Lozano is carted off the field after suffering an injury in Pachuca's Liga MX match against Tijuana.

Mexico and Pachuca winger Hirving Lozano could be set for an extended period on the sidelines after suffering what looked to be a serious injury on Friday evening.

Lozano had the ball in the center of the field in the 13th minute of Pachuca's 3-2 victory over Club Tijuana when U.S. international Michael Orozco went in late on the 21-year-old and caught him in the lower right leg.

Lozano had tears in his eyes as he left the field and was taken straight from the Estadio Caliente field to the hospital. Pachuca later released a photo of a deep cut in Lozano's leg.

"It's an embarrassment," said Pachuca vice president Andres Fassi after the game. "We are tired of telling the referees to look after Chucky. He's been the most-fouled player in the last two seasons and they don't look after him."

Lozano has been fouled 37 times in Liga MX this season, the most of any player, The talented attacker is one of Mexico's brightest, young stars and is a stable fixture in the national team squad.

Pachuca sporting director Marco Garces stated in January that it was "very probable" he would move to Europe in the summer.

Defender Orozco was taken off at half-time of the Liga MX Clausura match, with fellow U.S. international and Tijuana teammate Joe Corona seeing a red card in the 77th minute in a match that had a total of 33 fouls.

Although the victory was overshadowed by Lozano's injury, the win lifted Pachuca over Xolos and into first position in Liga MX. Toluca or Chivas could overtake them on Saturday in other round nine matches.
