Andres Guardado out of Mexico squad with leg injury

Andres Guardado
A leg injury will prevent Andres Guardado from playing for Mexico this month.

Mexico midfielder Andres Guardado will miss upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Costa Rica and Trinidad and Tobago, the national federation says.

Medical tests carried out on Monday morning showed PSV Eindhoven midfielder Guardado had an unspecified right leg injury, the FMF confirmed in a statement.

Guardado is set to stay with El Tri's squad for the key CONCACAF qualifying matches, despite the injury, while there was no immediate news on a replacement being called in.

The 30-year-old isn't the only absentee for Juan Carlos Osorio's squad. LA Galaxy's Giovani dos Santos, Porto's Jesus "Tecatito" Corona, Eintracht Frankfurt's Marco Fabian and Pachuca's Hirving Lozano all haven't traveled because of injury or lack of full match fitness.

Mexico is currently in second place in the Hexagonal standings, behind Costa Rica after two rounds of matches.

El Tri hosts Costa Rica on March 24 before facing Trinidad and Tobago in Port of Spain four days later.
