Rangers sign midfielder Niko Krancjar from New York Cosmos

Niko Kranjcar (centre) has played Queens Park Rangers and Portsmouth as well as a spell at Tottenham.

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Niko Kranjcar has signed for Rangers, the Ibrox club have announced.

The 31-year-old flew into Glasgow on Wednesday and quickly finalised his move from New York Cosmos.

The Croatian has signed a two-year contract with the Premiership newcomers.

Kranjcar revealed a meeting with Rangers boss Mark Warburton convinced him a move to Ibrox was the right step.

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers got Wednesday's U.S. Open Cup action started with a bang, beating Major League Soccer's D.C. United 4-3 on penalty kicks after 120 minutes of scoreless regular and extra time.

The Strikers' Matheus Carvalho slotted the decisive penalty after United's Luciano Acosta and Jared Jeffrey missed their spot kicks.

David Mateos' second-half strike was enough for Orlando City edge out fellow Florida club Jacksonville Armada 1-0.
