Seattle's Torres suspended for violent conduct; Portland's Chara fined

With both teams coming off an opening weekend loss, the Montreal Impact host an inter-conference matchup at Stade Olympique against the reigning MLS Cup champions, Seattle Sounders FC, in a clash of MLS heavyweights.

Seattle Sounders defender Roman Torres will sit out his team's next game after Major League Soccer's disciplinary committee sanctioned the center-back with violent conduct in Saturday's 2-2 draw with the Montreal Impact.

Torres, 30, was adjudged to have kicked out at the Impact's Ambroise Oyongo after the two collided at the top of the Sounders' penalty area in the 37th minute.

Seattle next plays the New York Red Bulls at home on Sunday.
