Watford stumbled but survived thanks to a startling September

Watford ensured they will enjoy a third consecutive season in the Premier League, but it was a difficult and often frustrating campaign that resulted in yet another head coach leaving Vicarage Road. Following Walter Mazzarri's dismissal, the Hornets are after their ninth manager in five years.

A comprehensive and well-deserved home victory over Manchester United on Sept. 18 was a memorable moment for the Hornets' faithful. Mourinho's side featured Zlatan Ibrahimovic...

Heurelho Gomes says language barrier hindered Watford and Walter Mazzarri

Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes says manager Walter Mazzarri's difficulty speaking English made communication difficult at Vicarage Road this season.

Mazzarri was told last week that he would be out of a job after Sunday's final game, a 5-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Watford finished just one place above the relegation spots in 17th, and Gomes blamed the seasons' woes partly on the Italian manager's inability to instruct his players.

"It is important to speak English if you...

Watford blown out by City, end season on six-game losing streak

Watford went into this game with no recognised centre-backs and a dearth of defensive alternatives, so though the nature of this defeat was painful to watch, it came as no surprise. The visitors could have had double figures had they been minded to get out of second gear, as Watford were as hapless as they were ragged.

Heurelho Gomes one of few bright spots in Watford's 1-0 loss to Liverpool

Watford's 1-0 loss to Liverpool on Monday was a match largely devoid of quality and was ultimately decided by a single piece of brilliance from Liverpool's Emre Can.

Watford will perhaps regard themselves as unlucky not to have snatched a point after Sebastian Prodl hit the bar late on, but in truth the home side offered little throughout.

Craig Cathcart, Heurelho Gomes anchor Watford to clean sheet win over Sunderland

After a slow start, Watford dominated proceedings despite never being able to put the game out of Sunderland's reach in a 1-0 victory. The Hornets turned in a much improved performance while the hapless visitors look destined for the drop.

Britos, Watford sputter out of the FA Cup against League One side Millwall

Walter Mazzarri didn't have much to smile about as Watford turned in a putrid performance against League One side Millwall.

This was a feeble display from a Watford side who continue to show a lack of fight, imagination, cohesion, tenacity or flair. Millwall deserved their win, but only had to stay vaguely organised to secure what was ultimately a straightforward victory. The Hornets mustered just one shot on target against opposition two divisions below them; a telling statistic on a deeply disappointing day.
