Neymar beaten to Ligue 1 award by Saint-Etienne's Mathieu Debuchy

Mathieu Debuchy has been in fine form for Saint-Etienne.

Former Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy has beaten Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar to the Ligue 1 Player of the Month award for February thanks to his fine form at Saint-Etienne.

Debuchy scored twice, including a late equaliser in the Rhone derby with Lyon, to earn 47 percent of the vote organised by the UNFP, France's professional footballers' union.

The award makes him the first defender since PSG captain Thiago Silva in 2013 to win the prize.

Neymar, who scored twice and registered two assists,...

Mathieu Debuchy 'angry' with Arsene Wenger after blocked Man United move

Former Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy has admitted he was "angry" with Arsene Wenger for blocking a move to Manchester United.

Debuchy finally found a new club in January as Arsenal agreed to terminate his contract and allow him to join Saint-Etienne on a free transfer.

It ended an unhappy spell at the Emirates Stadium, where Debuchy had found himself on the fringes of the first team even when fit.

Wenger has acknowledged that he denied Debuchy the opportunity to join Man United on loan in January...

Arsenal right-back Mathieu Debuchy joins St Etienne on free transfer

Arsenal have allowed right-back Mathieu Debuchy to join French club St Etienne on a free transfer.

St Etienne announced the deal on Wednesday after the London club released Debuchy from the last 18 months of his contract. The Frenchman hasn't been a regular for Arsenal since Hector Bellerin emerged as Arsene Wenger's first-choice right back in 2014-15 but the club had been unable to find a buyer in the previous three transfer windows.

He spent the second half of the 2015-16 season on loan at Bordeaux,...

TOP STORY: Arsenal's fire sale

Per Mertesacker, Mathieu Debuchy run ragged in FA Cup defeat at Forest

Arsenal suffered one of the worst defeats of Arsene Wenger's reign as an abject 4-2 defeat at Nottingham Forest knocked the holders out of the FA Cup.

Wenger fielded a vastly weakened side for the third-round clash and the manager who has won the competition seven times suffered a big blow to his tenuous authority with the shocking exit to a young Forest side.

Eighteen-year-old Ben Brereton tormented the Arsenal defence and scored the third from the penalty spot after Eric Lichaj had scored...

Mathieu Debuchy: I want to leave Arsenal in January transfer window

Mathieu Debuchy has told RMC Sport he is determined to move on from Arsenal during the winter transfer window.

Debuchy, 32, arrived at the Emirates Stadium from Newcastle in 2014 as one of the Premier League's top right-backs and pushing to become France's first-choice in the position.

A serious ankle ligament injury sustained barely a month after making his competitive debut for Arsenal ruined his ambitions, however, as Hector Bellerin seized the opportunity to move ahead of him in Arsene Wenger's...
