Bayern Munich rallies to ease past Paris Saint-Germain in ICC

KLAGENFURT, Austria -- Bayern Munich successfully launched their International Champions Cup campaign with a 3-1 victory over two-time winners Paris Saint-Germain at Worthersee Stadion here on Saturday.

The French champions led at half-time through a goal from United States international Timothy Weah, but second-half strikes from Javi Martinez, Renato Sanches and Joshua Zirkzee saw the German giants recover and run out comfortable winners.

New PSG coach Thomas Tuchel will have been pleased with the way his players easily controlled the first half -- the key moment being just after the half hour as Kevin Rimane played the ball forward to Weah, who held off Josip Stanisic before finishing past Sven Ulreich.

Conversely, Tuchel will have been unimpressed by Les Parisiens' second-half collapse, while counterpart Niko Kovac will have been much happier than he was at half-time after a significant improvement.

The Bayern turnaround started on the hour when Martinez headed an Arjen Robben corner firmly past a shaky Gianluigi Buffon, who was rapidly withdrawn after that and replaced by Remy Descamps.

The young Frenchman's first action was to pick the ball out of the back of his own net after Sanches thumped a 68th-minute free kick past him and the PSG youth academy product was at it again 10 minutes later after substitute Serge Gnabry teed up fellow replacement Joshua Zirkzee to make it 3-1.

The Ligue 1 outfit will rue their missed chances as Christopher Nkunku was wayward on a number of good openings and captain Adrien Rabiot was denied by Ulreich.

However, Bayern could also have scored more and were denied by Buffon and the crossbar on occasions in the second half.
