Rayon Sports to abandon CAF appeal plans

Rwanda's Premier League champions Rayon Sports have abandoned plans to contest the fine they received from the Confederation of African Football this week.

The Kigali-based club have been ordered to pay $15,000 and four club officials have been suspended after being found guilty of violating CAF's disciplinary code and attempting to influence match officials during the Champions League clash against Lydia Ludic Academic of Burundi.

The four club officials accused of wrongdoing and suspended are: Patrick Rukundo, Shaffy Mudaheranwa, Jean Paul Nkusi and Prosper Muhirwa.

After initially claiming they'd appeal the sanctions meted out by CAF, the club have confirmed that they will not be following up with any action.

"We wanted to contest the decision," Rayon Sports FC Secretary General Bernard Itangishaka told KweséESPN, "but we decided to abandon the plan.

"We will now concentrate on our team and focus on the next game,"

Rayon saw off Mozambique's Costa do Sol 3-0 in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup playoff in Kigali on Friday, with Hussein Shabani netting twice and substitute Kevin Muhire adding another.

The Rwandan heavyweights were eliminated from the Champions League following a First Round defeat by Mamelodi Sundowns.
