Bell sits out cup clash
Stranraer will be without Steven Bell as they look to start the season with a win over Dumbarton for a second campaign in a row.
Midfielder Bell has an ankle injury and will be the only absentee for manager Stephen Aitken, who has five new signings to add to his squad.
``It was great to get ourselves up and running 12 months ago with a win over Dumbarton and it would be terrific to do the same again,`` said Aitken.
"However, it will be even harder to win as they have strengthened their pool over the summer and brought in players with top-flight experience. We will need to play at our very best to win through again."
Dumbarton will be without defender Mark McLaughlin, who has a thigh strain, while new recruit Lee Mair and goalkeeper Jamie Ewings and Chris Turner all face fitness tests.
Moves to bring in Aberdeen goalkeeper Danny Rogers on loan have stalled with Sons manager Ian Murray looking for the perfect day at Stair Park.
He said: "If we can go to Stranraer and win the tie by scoring a few goals and not conceding any, as well as not picking up any injuries, it will have been a perfect start to the season.
``However, we know from last season that Stranraer will not be making things easy."
