Source: LAFC hasn't lowered Rossi asking price

Paul Mariner makes his choice between LAFC's Carlos Vela and Atlanta United's Josef Martinez for his hypothetical MLS team.

LAFC has not lowered its valuation of forward Diego Rossi, a league source told ESPN FC.

Italy-based journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported that LAFC had reduced its asking price from $16.6 million to $13.3 million, with Serie A side Fiorentina bidding $9.4 million plus add-ons. That drop in price has reportedly left Fiorentina optimistic that a deal will get done before the close of the Italian transfer window Sept. 2.

But a source has told ESPN FC that while LAFC -- the runaway leader in MLS this season -- is willing to listen to offers for Rossi, it's holding firm on price, and that it would take an offer of "at least" $16.6 million to pry him loose.

However, another source with knowledge of Fiorentina's thinking said that La Viola had moved on from Rossi.

Rossi, 21, has proved to be a fantastic addition to LAFC since arriving from Penarol prior to the start of the 2018 season. His inaugural campaign in MLS saw Rossi score 17 goals in 37 league and cup appearances, and he is on his way to exceeding that total in 2019, with 14 goals in all competitions and still two months to go in the regular season.

Rossi rose through the ranks with Uruguayan giant Penarol, scoring 13 goals in 52 league and cup appearances over parts of three seasons.

Rossi has yet to represent Uruguay at senior level, but played for La Celeste at both the under-17 and U20 levels.
