Free State Stars midfielder Sinethemba Jantjie has died in a car crash, the South African Premier Soccer League club has confirmed in a statement.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Free State Stars midfielder Sinethemba Jantjie," the club announced.

"Mr Jantjie passed away in the early hours of the morning when his car was involved in an accident.

"The club plans to meet with Jantjie's family, after which they will give further details of the funeral and memorial arrangements."

Cape Town City FC coach Benni McCarthy has all but accused Kaizer Chiefs of trying to hurt his players in their midweek Absa Premiership clash this week, after Teenage Hadebe leveled a crunching tackle on Siphelele Mthembu.
