Sporting Kansas City signs Yohan Croizet to designated player contract

Yohan Croizet
Yohan Croizet has joined Sporting Kansas City on a three-year designated player contract.

Sporting Kansas City has acquired midfielder Yohan Croizet in a transfer from Belgian side KV Mechelen pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P1 visa, the club announced on Friday.

The 25-year-old signed a designated player contract that will see him in Kansas City through the 2020 season, with an option to extend the deal another year.

A native of Sarrebourg, France, Croizet joins Sporting after amassing three goals and four assists in 37 appearances in 2016-17, and added three more assists in 15 appearances this term.

"We are thrilled to complete the signing of Yohan Croizet, a player who embodies many of the qualities we look for at this club," Sporting Kansas City manager Peter Vermes said. "We all look forward to him coming to Kansas City and joining our organization."

Prior to his time at Mechelen, Croizet spent two years at Belgian side OH Leuven, a single season with Belgian second-division outfit Virton, and two seasons in France with Metz and Metz II, in the country's first and second divisions.

And he says that after his travails in Belgium and France, a move to Major League Soccer is a "dream" come true.

"This is a successful team with a great stadium, training center and fans," Croizet said. "It has been my dream to play in MLS, so I am happy to join Sporting KC."
