Trezeguet joins Indian Super League

David Trezeguet adds his name to a collection of former greats.

David Trezeguet has become the latest former star player to join India's eight-team Indian Super League (ISL) on a one-year deal with Pune City.

Trezeguet, 36, famously won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 with France and played for Juventus before heading to play for Hercules (Spain), Baniyas (UAE) and River Plate (Argentina) while also spending time on loan at Newell's Old Boys last season.

The new franchise-based soccer league has already signed up former Arsenal players Robert Pires and Freddie Ljungberg, while Spanish duo Joan Capdevila and Luis Garcia have also joined the competition which is scheduled from October to December.

Now Trezeguet has added his name to the list with the Kolkata franchise, which boasts Italian Franco Colomba as head coach.

"Trezeguet will be our marquee player. He will spearhead our team, score goals and hopefully win the league for us," Pune's chief executive Gaurav Modwel told reporters on Wednesday.

Information from the Reuters was used in this report.
