Diego Lopez 'set to leave Real Madrid'

Craig Burley gives his best XI from the Barcelona and Real Madrid squads and Stevie Nicol doesn't agree with some of his choices.

Diego Lopez appears increasingly likely to leave Real Madrid as they prepare to bring in Keylor Navas from Levante, AS.com has reported.

Lopez was the club's first-choice goalkeeper for the majority of league games last season, with Iker Casillas playing in knockout competitions, and is reported to be a target for Monaco and Napoli should he decide to go.

The 32-year-old has three years remaining on his contract at the Bernabeu, but the impending arrival of Costa Rica international Navas, who shone at the World Cup in Brazil, would leave his first-team chances in the balance.

Last month, AS.com reported that Real had reached an agreement to sign 27-year-old Navas.

It said the player had begun sending goodbye messages to his Levante teammates as Madrid director general Jose Angel Sanchez worked on finalising the transfer.

Real will pay Navas' buyout clause, with eight million euros going to the club and two million euros to the player.

Levante president Quico Catalan was quoted as saying: "If we had a total agreement, it would be made public, but we don't. A lot of that is down to the player. A decision will be taken when both parties are clear on things."

The report claimed Navas had made up his mind that he wanted to play for Real Madrid.
