Newcastle cool Loic Remy interest

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has told the Evening Chronicle he has all but given up on trying to sign Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy.

Pardew had recently confirmed he was monitoring Remy's situation after the France international's transfer to Liverpool collapsed.

However, he has now said he does not plan to move for the striker, who impressed on loan at Newcastle last season.

"I think he's had plenty of chances to come to us," he said. "We made it very clear that we would like to have him and it hasn't really happened and therefore sometimes you have to say 'Where's the line drawn for us as a club?' as we have our own respect and our own professionalism.

"So maybe that one has gone away, but like all transfers they're never, ever over, so we'll keep our finger on the pulse."

Harry Redknapp, meanwhile, has confirmed that Remy will join up with QPR for training in Ireland.

"Loic is coming out on Sunday night to join us for training on Monday, so it will be good to have him with us," the QPR boss told his club's official website.

Redknapp also said Adel Taarabt, who spent time on loan at Fulham and AC Milan last season, could stay at Loftus Road.

"Adel is training with us, and we are working hard to get him fit for the start of the season," Redknapp said. "He has had a few little niggles but he trained this morning (Friday) and he will certainly play a part in one of the games while we are here. He is with us and ready.

"At this moment he is part of our plans for the season, unless someone comes in and pays the money that the club want. Otherwise, he will stay with us and we'll be looking to get him to do his bit for the club this season."
