Philadelphia signs Haris Medunjanin and close in on Fafa Picault deal

Haris Medunjanin has moved to MLS to play for the Philadelphia Union.

The Philadelphia Union signed Bosnian midfielder Haris Medunjanin from Maccabi Tel Aviv on Tuesday while closing in on a deal for U.S. international Fafa Picault.

Medunjanin signed a two-year deal with an option for a third, with the Union using targeted allocation money in his contract.

The 31-year-old, who has previously played in La Liga with Real Valladolid and Derportivo La Coruna, has earned 55 caps for Bosnia and Herzegovina and played at the 2014 World Cup.

"We are extremely happy to add a player of Haris' caliber. Having played at the highest levels of our game, be brings both quality and experience to our midfield," Union sporting director Earnie Stewart said. "We're anxious for Haris to join our group as we continue to prepare for the start of the season."

Picault, who earned his lone U.S. cap last May in a friendly against Puerto Rico, was released by second-tier German club St. Pauli on Tuesday after completing a trial with the Union this week.

St. Pauli confirmed that Picault would join the Union pending a medical exam.

The moves come one day after the Union signed former U.S. defender Oguchi Onyewu.
