LA Galaxy to acquire San Jose keeper David Bingham - sources

Nguyen action vs San Jose 170419
The Galaxy are betting David Bingham fills a need at goalkeeper.

The LA Galaxy are in the final stages of completing a deal that would see them acquire San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper David Bingham, sources have confirmed to ESPN FC.

If the deal is completed, San Jose will receive a combination of General Allocation Money and Targeted Allocation Money between $200,000 and $250,000.

Bingham, 28, would join the Galaxy after enduring a difficult 2017 campaign, one in which he lost his starting spot in San Jose to Andrew Tarbell.

However, Bingham does have considerable MLS experience. He was an understudy to Jon Busch for four seasons before securing the starting role in 2015.

He went on to play in 96 league matches, and also got called up by the United States during that time, making three appearances.

Bingham's move will also see him reunited with LA assistant coach Dominic Kinnear, who managed Bingham for parts of three seasons in San Jose.

LA is betting that Bingham will fill a goalkeeping position that has been something of revolving door in recent years. Three different goalkeepers made at least seven starts for the Galaxy in 2017, and none of that trio -- Jon Kempin, Brian Rowe, and Clement Diop remains.

Rowe was traded to Vancouver on Friday, Diop was claimed in the waiver draft by the Montreal Impact, and Kempin was traded to the Columbus Crew.
