The Socceroos will tackle global superstar Lionel Messi and Argentina at next year's Copa America after Australia were drawn alongside the co-hosts.

Graham Arnold's men were drawn in Group A for the South American continental championship, which starts on June 12.

That means Australia will play their five group stages matches in Argentina against the two-time World Cup champions, Uruguay, Chile, Bolivia and Paraguay.

Chilean football season ended early amid protests

Universidad Catolica retained the league title following the season's early finish.

The Chilean football season has been ended early following a meeting of the Council of Presidents of Chilean professional football clubs on Friday.

The decision was taken due to fears about security in the country, following anti-government protests over inequality which have been taking place for six weeks.

It's the first time in its 86-year history that Chile's professional leagues have not been complete, as football continued to be played even with the 1973 Chilean coup d'état.

The two teams last played each other in the Copa America semifinals with Peru winning, 3-0.

The Chilean national team players opted on Wednesday against playing a friendly versus Peru on Nov. 19 due to the demonstrations over social inequality in Chile.

The Chile federation made the official cancellation announcement on Wednesday, adding that Gary Medel, Arturo Vidal, Charles Aranguiz, Claudio Bravo and others were cleared to return to their respective European clubs.

The Copa Libertadores final between Flamengo and River Plate has been moved to Lima, Peru from Santiago, Chile due to continuing unrest in the Chilean capital, the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) said on Tuesday.

The Nov. 23 final was due to be held at the National stadium, but Santiago has been beset by violence over the last few weeks as protests that began over a rise in metro fares have amplified and spread.

Protests in Chile have concerned River Plate manager Marcelo Gallardo.

River Plate manager Marcelo Gallardo said he is "worried" that protests in Chile could force a change in venue for his side's Copa Libertadores final against Flamengo on Nov. 23.
