CAF Super Cup: Wydad Casablanca beat Tout Puissant Mazembe

Amin Tighazoui scored the only goal of the game as Wydad Casablanca beat Tout Puissant Mazembe 1-0 at the Stade Mohammed V on Saturday.

Tighazoui beat Sylvain Gbohouo with a delightful free kick in the 83rd minute as the CAF Champions League holders downed the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup winners following a cagey contest.

Walid El Karti had earlier had a 55th-minute penalty saved by Gbohouo, before Tighazoui struck a late winner to down a Mazembe side who had appeared content to contain the Moroccan...

AS Vita Club advance in Champions League; Al-Merrikh crash out

Congolese giants AS Vita Club were among a number of high-profile clubs to advance to the second round of the CAF Champions League on Wednesday, but Sudanese heavyweights Al-Merrikh were one of several big clubs to fall at the first hurdle.

Les Dauphins Noirs, African champions in 1973, won 2-1 away at Mighty Wanderers of Malawi to take the tie 6-1 on aggregate and establish themselves as one of the teams to watch this season.

In contrast, Sudanese side Al-Merrikh claimed a 2-1 victory over Botswana...

Nigeria fall, South Africa climb in FIFA World Rankings

The Democratic Republic of Congo are Africa's most notable climbers in the February edition of the FIFA World Rankings, while Nigeria drop one place and South Africa climb.

The Congolese, fifth in the rankings released in January, have moved up to third in Africa after climbing four places in the overall standings.

They overtake Morocco and Egypt in the continental standings, and move up to 39th in the overall world standings.

Tunisia remain Africa's top team, 23rd in the overall rankings, while...

Africa's biggest footballing disappointments of 2017

2017 was a memorable year in the African game, with Cameroon ending their considerable wait for a continental crown, and Issa Hayatou's long tenure as CAF chief coming to an end.

Ahmad Ahmad took the reins of the African game's governing body, while the likes of Mohamed Salah, Thomas Partey and Hakim Ziyech have seen their stock climb after fine campaigns.

However, it hasn't been a year of undiluted success and achievement, with many elements of the continent's game flattering to deceive.

In this...

Could Everton's Yannick Bolasie add style to Sam Allardyce's steel?

Everton's revival under Sam Allardyce continued on Wednesday with a workmanlike, and at times fortunate, 1-0 victory over Newcastle United that had all the hallmarks of 'Big Sam's' teams.

The Merseysiders were organised in defence, worked hard for each other, were cynical in their timewasting at times, and took one of the few chances they created as a rejuvenated Wayne Rooney took his Premier League tally for the season to nine goals.

Ten points from the last 12 available, and just a single goal...
