After a third straight quarterfinal exit for the United States at the U20 World Cup, Janusz Michallik discusses whether the U.S. should expect more.

The United States was knocked out of the Under-20 World Cup in the quarterfinals for the third straight tournament, losing to Ecuador 2-1 Saturday at Gdynia, Poland.

Jhon Espinoza scored the tie-breaking goal in the 43rd minute for Ecuador, which next plays South Korea or Senegal on Tuesday. Italy meets Ukraine in the other semifinal.

Jose Cifuentes put Ecuador ahead in the 30th minute and Tim Weah tied the score in the 36th.

A United States team reduced to 10 men sealed top spot in Group E of the FIFA Under-20 World Cup on Sunday with a 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabia in Daejeon, South Korea.

A Brooks Lennon first-half goal secured the vital point for the U.S. to set up a second-round showdown with New Zealand on June 1.

Luca de la Torre scored four minutes into injury time to rescue a 3-3 draw for United States against Ecuador at the Under-20 World Cup.

The U.S. conceded two early goals from Herlin Lino and Bryan Cabezas before getting back into the Group F match with a pair of strikes from Josh Sargent, assisted by De la Torre and Brooks Lennon.

In the process Sargent became just the second American, after Jozy Altidore, to score in the tournament as a 17-year-old.
