William Gallas spent five years at Chelsea.

Former Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham defender William Gallas has retired from football and will formally announce the decision in an interview to be broadcast later on Thursday.

Gallas, 37, will officially bring down the curtain on the career he began at Caen in 1996 when he speaks to Sport Confidential -- L'Equipe's TV channel -- on Thursday evening.

Aymeric Laporte may give up on France career if Spain call him up

ESPN FC's Sid Lowe analyses Diego Costa's first goal in a Spain jersey and the pressure he has been under to produce for La Roja.

Athletic Bilbao's young French centre-back Aymeric Laporte has suggested that he might switch allegiance to Spain if he is not soon called up by Les Bleus.

Laporte, 20, is already a regular starter for Athletic, and impressed especially last season as the Basque side sealed Champions League qualification. He has also starred while winning the European Under-19 Championship with France in both 2011 and 2012, and played in this week's unsuccessful European Under-21 Championship playoffs against Sweden.

Loic Remy scored a seventh-minute opener to set France on their way to a comfortable 3-0 friendly win over Armenia in Yerevan on Tuesday evening.

Andre-Pierre Gignac's 55th-minute penalty and a late strike from Antoine Griezmann wrapped up the victory for Didier Deschamps' men.

Armenia had started the game with confidence after a promising draw against Serbia in a European Championship qualifier on Saturday.
