11 Guatemala U15s denied travel visas to U.S.

Guatemala federation president Gerardo Paiz confirmed on Friday that the country won't skip the 2019 CONCACAF Boys' Under-15 Championship in Bradenton, Fla., despite the fact that 11 players were denied visas to travel to the United States.

CONCACAF is hosting the event Aug. 4-11 at the IMG Academy campus with the participation of 42 North, Central America and Caribbean nations as well as Israel.

FIFA has lifted its suspension of the Guatemala football federation, clearing the Central American country to vote in the 2026 World Cup hosting contest on June 13.

FIFA says its ruling council must ratify the decision on June 10 in Moscow.

That same FIFA Council meeting must also approve the 2026 candidates, Morocco and the joint United States-Canada-Mexico bid.

Ex-Guatemala official Hector Trujillo banned for life by FIFA

ZURICH -- FIFA ethics judges have imposed a life ban from football on a Guatemalan official who took bribes linked to marketing deals for World Cup qualifying games.

Hector Trujillo was the first defendant sentenced last October in a sprawling American investigation of football corruption. He received an eight-month prison term after admitting wire fraud and conspiracy charges.

FIFA says its ethics committee has fined Trujillo $200,000 but it is unclear how the sport's ruling body can enforce payment.
