Debutant Paul Smyth needed just four minutes to deliver on Michael O'Neill's assertion that "the future starts today'' with a late winner in Northern Ireland's 2-1 victory over South Korea.

QPR winger Smyth, who played 90 minutes for the under-21s against Spain on Thursday, became the first Northern Irishman in 17 years to score on his international bow by firing home four minutes from time.

The South Koreans had gone ahead early on through Kwon Chang-hoon but the hosts levelled when an ingenious...

The Republic of Ireland will meet neighbours Northern Ireland in a friendly match in November this year.

Republic boss Martin O'Neill and Northern Ireland counterpart Michael O'Neill will go head-to-head for the first time as international managers, almost seven and a half years since the teams last clashed in a senior fixture at the Aviva Stadium on Nov. 15.

Neither nation has a competitive fixture on that day and they will use the game as preparation for their UEFA Nations League games against...

Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill turns down Scotland offer

Michael O'Neill is set to continue as Northern Ireland manager.

Michael O'Neill is set to continue as manager of Northern Ireland after turning down the Scotland job.

The 48-year-old was believed to be close to taking over as Scotland boss following talks last week with the Scottish Football Association.

The SFA had agreed to meet a £500,000 compensation payment to the Irish FA in order to secure the services of O'Neill, who had described talks between the parties as "productive."

However, after a period of deliberation, O'Neill, who lives in Edinburgh,...
