Suspect in 2010 shooting of Salvador Cabanas gets 20 years in jail

The man suspected of shooting former Paraguay national football team standout Salvador Cabanas in the head in 2010, effectively ending his career, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison in Mexico, authorities announced Sunday.

But federal prosecutors said in a statement that the man identified as Jose Jorge "B," with no full last name given, was sentenced for organized crime, not attempted murder.

Chile join Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay in 2030 World Cup bid

Chile joined three neighboring South American countries in a bid to host the 2030 soccer World Cup, according to a joint statement from their governments released on Thursday.

The bid, which previously included only Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, is up against bids from England, and another bid from Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia.

The 2030 World Cup will mark the centennial of soccer's most important championship, with the first being held in Uruguay in 1930.

Paraguay and Juan Carlos Osorio part ways by mutual consent

Juan Carlos Osorio is leaving his position as Paraguay coach for personal reason.

Juan Carlos Osorio is no longer head coach of Paraguay after he and the country's football association announced they would part ways by mutual consent.

Osorio made the announcement alongside APF president Robert Harrison at a joint news conference, citing family issues as the reason for leaving his post.

"For my own family reasons, unfortunately I can't continue in the job," said Osorio. "I'd like to thank you all for your support. It brought me pride to manage, lead and train the national team."


Juan Carlos Osorio's Paraguay to face Mexico in March

Paraguay head coach Juan Carlos Osorio will face off against his former employers Mexico in March, with the Colombian returning to the scene of El Tri's 7-0 loss against Chile in California in June 2016.

The Paraguayan football association confirmed that La Albirroja will play Mexico on March 26 in Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara in what is likely to be the second game in charge for incoming El Tri manager Gerardo "Tata" Martino, who is yet to be confirmed but widely reported to be the next coach.
