Mamelodi Sundowns extend PSL lead after draw

Mamelodi Sundowns extended their lead at the top of the Absa Premiership to five points following an entertaining 1-1 draw with Free State Stars at Loftus Stadium on Wednesday.

Percy Tau swept Sundowns ahead early on, but they spurned a number of chances to double that advantage before former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates forward Siphelele Mthembu equalised in the second period.

The draw takes Sundowns to 39 points from 21 games, five ahead of Chiefs in second place, and one ahead of Pirates...

McCarthy frustrated by Cape Town City's lack of goals

Benni McCarthy's career was a record-breaking goal bonanza but stuck now on the sidelines, his frustration at his Cape Town City players' inability to find the back of the net is increasing daily.

An unimpressive 1-0 win over Swaziland's Young Buffaloes at home in the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup tie had the 40-year-old former South African international livid as he bemoaned the frequent prolificacy of the City players in front of goal.

The victory was enough to see City through to...

Strugglers Platinum Stars, SuperSport United play to dull draw

PSL strugglers Platinum Stars and SuperSport United played out to a disappointing 0-0 draw at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Tuesday.

Both sides looked more fearful of defeat rather than trying to go for a win, which did not make for a great spectacle, although the point is probably more valuable for SuperSport.

Stars remain rooted to the foot of the table with 17 points from 21 games, four behind Ajax Cape Town in the relative safety of the relegation play-off position.

They are five behind Polokwane...

Steve Komphela remains hopeful of Kaizer Chiefs title win

Nine successive matches without defeat is the kind of consistency that now provides the self belief that prompts the usually circumspect Steve Komphela to suggest that Kaizer Chiefs might yet steal the Premier Soccer League title from Mamelodi Sundowns.

Komphela is normally adverse to making any kind of prediction, but the coach has strayed from his usual cautious pronouncements to tell reporters that his side have a right to believe in their chances.

His confidence was fuelled by Saturday's home...

Ryan Moon takes centre stage at Kaizer Chiefs

For all their star names and expensive imports, it is one of the young brigade who has made the biggest impact at Kaizer Chiefs in recent times and it could be his goals that lift them to the title.

Ryan Moon has netted in four of the club's last five games, only failing to find the back of the net in the 0-0 stalemate against Mamelodi Sundowns in late January.

With Colombian forward Leonardo Castro not yet up to full match fitness, the 21-year-old Moon has been entrusted with the starting position...
