Familiar foe but an unfamiliar opponent for many in Bafana squad

It is a sign of the injury crisis and the rapid evolution of the South African national side that just nine of their 23-man squad have ever faced Nigeria before in an international fixture - and of those only three have played the Super Eagles more than once.

With stalwarts Dean Furman, Kamohelo Mokotjo, Bongani Zungu, Keagan Dolly and Sibusiso Vilakazi all missing through injury, facing Bafana Bafana's traditional arch-nemesis will be a novel occasion for many of their team.

South Africa vs. Nigeria: Will history repeat itself?

Games between Nigeria and South Africa always generate massive interest, and Saturday's 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg shouldn't be any different.

Beyond the consequences for AFCON qualification, the match also affords Nigeria an opportunity to halt their recent struggles against South Africa.

Stuart Baxter has no fear over Nigeria clash

South Africa coach Stuart Baxter says that while his side have a healthy respect for Africa Cup of Nations qualifier opponents, there is no fear of the Super Eagles ahead of the clash at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Bafana are unbeaten in their last four matches against Nigeria, including a 2-0 victory in Uyo last time out.

That was the second time that Baxter has masterminded a victory over the Super Eagles having also beaten them 2-1 during his first spell in charge of the side in 2004.

The Belgium-based star says it is about time that the national team returned to major international tournaments on a regular basis.

The forward was not part of the squad when Bafana Bafana played at the 2015 Nations Cup finals in Equatorial Guinea, the only time they have qualified for the continental showpiece in a decade, not including when they appeared...

Cape Town City thump Black Leopards to move into top eight

Cape Town City moved into the top eight of the Absa Premiership with a comprehensive 3-1 victory over Black Leopards at the Cape Town Stadium on Sunday.

Goals from Ayanda Patosi, Allan Kateregga and Siphelele Mthembu sealed the win for Benni McCarthy's side, who have now recorded back-to-back wins after a difficult start to their league campaign.

It was City's intricate passing on the edge of the Leopards box that drew reward as they cut open the visitors almost at will, especially in the first...
