How Vlatko Andonovski made a name for himself in the NWSL -- and likely beyond

Among the missions of the National Women's Soccer League, subsidized in part by U.S. Soccer, is to identify and develop talent that might otherwise go unutilized in the pursuit of international glory.

It just so happens that one of the success stories is a 43-year-old from North Macedonia.

Seven years ago, Vlatko Andonovski was a stranger to most women's soccer fans. Now he's chasing NWSL history. Andonovski has a chance to become the first coach to win three titles as Seattle Reign FC takes on...

Carli Lloyd says diminished World Cup role was 'worst time of my life'

Carli Lloyd says that while she's pondering a possibility of being a kicker in the NFL, she's first and foremost a USWNT player.

Rather than the crowning achievement of her career, winning a second consecutive World Cup title marked the end of three years that Carli Lloyd hopes never to repeat.

In an interview this week on ESPN's Laughter Permitted with Julie Foudy podcast, Lloyd, 37, spoke at length about her frustrations with a diminished role on the U.S. women's national team after the 2016 Olympics and the toll the past three years took on her professionally and personally.

"I'm not going to lie and sugarcoat it," Lloyd...

USWNT disputes USSF filing in equal pay suit

A new filing from the plaintiffs in a pay discrimination lawsuit against U.S. Soccer alleges that if members of the women's national team were paid under the same terms as the men's national team, they would have earned roughly three times as much as their actual compensation.

The information comes in a new brief filed Monday by the plaintiffs in response to a U.S. Soccer filing last week opposing certification of the players' class action status.

Twenty-eight members of the women's national team...

Without Jill Ellis, what's next for the USWNT?

CHICAGO -- The future is only a month away for the United States women's national team.

Sunday's draw against South Korea marked the end of the U.S. team's five-game "Victory Tour" to celebrate its fourth World Cup title. It ended a 17-game winning streak that dated back almost to the start of the calendar year. Most significantly, it was the final game of Jill Ellis' five years in charge of the team.

Players now return to their NWSL teams for the final week of the regular season and, for...

The USWNT's 17-match winning streak and the Jill Ellis era end in Chicago with a 1-1 draw vs. South Korea.

United States Women's National Team coach Jill Ellis saw her storied career come to an end Sunday with her team's 1-1 tie against South Korea at Chicago in the final game of the squad's World Cup victory tour.

Both goals came in rapid succession. South Korea's Ji Soyun scored from the edge of the penalty area with her right foot in the 34th minute, while the United States matched it three minutes later when Carli Lloyd scored on a header from a Megan Rapinoe corner kick.

Ellis, who announced her...
