Roma's Adem Ljajic escapes ban for inciting Feyenoord fans

Roma's Adem Ljajic will not be punished for his celebration after scoring last week at Feyenoord.

NYON, Switzerland -- Roma winger Adem Ljajic has avoided suspension for inciting home fans when celebrating his goal in a volatile Europa League win at Feyenoord.

UEFA says Ljajic received just a warning from its disciplinary panel.

The Serbia international is now clear to play against Fiorentina next week in the last 16.

Ljajic scored the opening goal in Roma's 2-1 win in Rotterdam, which was twice halted by fan disorder. The first leg in Italy was also marred by fan violence.

Dynamo Kiev hit with stadium closure for Europa League clash vs. Everton

The ESPN FC panel weigh in on the Europa League Round of 16 draw.

UEFA has ordered Dynamo Kiev to close part of its stadium for their Europa League last-16 second leg against Everton on March 19.

Section 21 of the Olympic Stadium in the Ukrainian capital is to be shut for the match as punishment for ugly crowd disturbances that took place during Dynamo's clash against Guingamp in the previous round of the competition on Feb. 26.

Dynamo's 3-1 home win had to be halted for 15 minutes after fighting broke out in the crowd, while fireworks were set off during the game...

Feyenoord face racism case for fans' banana incident

Roma scored two goals at Feyenoord to book their spot in the Europa League Round of 16 despite the game being halted for objects being thrown on the field by unruly fans.
Both teams were forced to leave the field after crowd disturbances at the De Kuip stadium.
Police in Rotterdam are tightening security and drafting in reinforcements, ahead of a highly-charged UEFA Europa League match between Feyenoord and AS Roma.

NYON, Switzerland -- UEFA has charged Feyenoord with racist behaviour by fans who threw an inflatable banana on the pitch during a tense Europa League last-32 match against Roma.

UEFA said it also charged Roma winger Adem Ljajic with "provoking spectators" when celebrating the opening goal in Roma's decisive 2-1 win last Thursday.

Dozens of fans were detained in the Netherlands ahead of the return following disorder in Rome at the first-leg match.

Last Thursday, play was twice briefly stopped by...

Liverpool overcome Man City, but will true greatness ever return to Anfield?

The ESPN FC crew identify the elements leading to Liverpool's current rise in the Premier League table.

Liverpool's league form has been highly impressive since their embarrassing 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace in November. The stats read like a team chasing the title: played 15, won 10, drawn four, lost one, with the latest victory coming in a superb 2-1 performance against champions Manchester City.

Bizarrely, however, the 34-point run hasn't closed the gap on fourth place by very much. That's because all of the usual challengers for the Champions League qualification spots have all had very good runs...

Brendan Rodgers: Europa League exit could be blessing for Liverpool

Manuel Pellegrini knows all too well the dangers European football can pose on a domestic campaign, and notes that Liverpool may be feeling a strain following their Europa League defeat.

LIVERPOOL -- Liverpool's Europa League exit could be positive for the club as it frees them up from potential fixture congestion, manager Brendan Rodgers says.

Rodgers' side went out of the competition at the round of 32 stage on penalties to Turkish side Besiktas on Thursday.

The Reds did not arrive home until 4.30 a.m. on Friday, leaving them little time to prepare for Sunday's Premier League home match against title contenders Manchester City.

Liverpool's fixture list has been packed since the...
