Diabate relishing Maritimo meeting
Bordeaux striker Cheick Diabate is not concerned about taking a step into the unknown when his side take on Madeira-based Maritimo in their Europa League Group D clash in Funchal.
Diabate admitted he does not know too much about the side who held Newcastle to a 0-0 draw in their opening European match before falling to a loss against Club Brugge.
Bordeaux, who suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat by Alan Pardew's Newcastle earlier this month, are yet to score away from home in the group stages, while Maritimo will be looking to keep their fourth successive clean sheet at home.
``It is difficult for us but it is also difficult for them,'' Diabate told www.girondins.com about his side's lack of insight into their opponents.
``They do not know us either. It's good to play this kind of game. All of the teams in the league (Ligue 1) know each other well so to play against different teams is very interesting.''
Maritimo, who play in Portugal's Primeira Liga, will face a French club for the first time when they take on Bordeaux.
Their five-game unbeaten run in Europe this season ended with the 2-0 loss at Brugge earlier this month, however, they are yet to concede a European goal at home in this campaign after recording two 0-0 draws and a 1-0 win.
Diabate is looking forward to the challenge of breaking the Portuguese side down.
He said: ``There are two different kinds of competitions. Personally, I just want to play and make it onto the field.
``We want to win our games but whatever the event, we will continue to fight.''
