D.C. United signs Venezuela midfielder Junior Moreno

Junior Moreno played against Lionel Messi and Argentina in September.

D.C. United have acquired Venezuela international midfielder Junior Moreno, the MLS club announced on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old moves from Zulia in his homeland -- where he was captain and scored two goals in 2017 -- for an undisclosed fee.

Venezuela clubs honour protesters' deaths with minute of silence

Deportivo Lara midfielder Ricardo Andreutti said it was correct to protest after kick-off.

Venezuelan teams held an improvised minute of silence during two top division games at the weekend, one of them after kick-off, in honour of victims of the recent turmoil in the country.

At least 29 people were killed last month during demonstrations between authorities and anti-government protesters over Venezuela's economic woes of triple-digit inflation and shortages of food and other goods.

Armed men hold up bus carrying Venezuela's Trujillanos team

Trujillanos say their bus was held up by six armed men on Monday.

CARACAS, Venezuela -- Six armed men have held up a bus carrying a Venezuelan first division football team.

Trujillanos said on Monday that their bus was hijacked at 2:30 a.m. as the players were returning from the eastern city of Monagas. Both players and team staff were robbed, but no one was hurt.

The club said on Twitter that the players were held by the armed men, who threatened to detonate a grenade, for two hours.
