Tony Pulis: West Bromwich Albion 'should be proud of fantastic season'

Darren Fletcher is especially proud of the win over Arsenal as he feels critics have not shown enough respect for West Brom.
The intense pressure on Arsene Wenger mounts after Arsenal were swept aside by West Brom at The Hawthorns.

Tony Pulis believes West Brom should be proud of their Premier League campaign regardless of what happens in the remaining nine matches.

The Baggies continue to exceed all expectations this season and remain surprise contenders for European football after beating Arsenal 3-1 at The Hawthorns on Saturday.

West Brom, currently eighth and with a seven-point cushion over Stoke beneath them, face a tricky run-in with games against Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City to come but Pulis hopes they can maintain their momentum and finish the season strongly.

"We lost our last two matches so it was important we tried to get something against Arsenal," Pulis said. "We've got to keep our feet on the ground. We are what we are and the players have done fantastically well to achieve the 40 points in the time that we've done it.

"Our output against Everton was as good as any output we've achieved this year, but we lost the game. We know what we are, we know what we've got. We lack certain things.

"But you always work as a group and they did it again -- without [James] Morrison and [Matty] Phillips who have been big players for us.

"I understand that if you raise the bar and if you don't reach that again you and the players are going to get criticism. For me, they've just been fantastic this year, irrespective of what happens between now and the end of the season.

"We could lose the next three games, we've still had a fantastic season. The Premier League is the most demanding league in the world and what they have achieved was fantastic and they should be proud of it."
