Tom Saintfiet agrees two-year deal as Togo coach

LOME, Togo -- Tom Saintfiet has been given a two-year contract to coach the Togo national team.

The Belgian had been in charge on a temporary basis after Tchakala Tchanile's contract was not renewed last year following the failure to qualify for this year's African Nations Cup.

Togo Football Federation interim head Antoine Folly says Saintfiet will have former international defender Jean Paul Abolo as his assistant coach.

Will FIFA's new passport eligibility rules have the desired effect?

Will the new rules avoid future situations such as that which Herve Zengue, left, faced several years ago?

FIFA announced this week that all players involved in qualifying for the 2018 World Cup will be required to produce a valid passport 24 hours before kickoff or they will not be allowed to take the field.

It is a move targeted specifically the member nations of CAF, among whom were the only countries to field ineligible players during qualifying for the last tournament.

Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Liberia, Sudan and Togo all broke eligibility rules during 2014 World Cup qualification...

CAS lifts Morocco ban from African Nations Cup

LAUSANNE, Switzerland -- Morocco have been cleared to play in the next two editions of the African Nations Cup after the Court of Arbitration for Sport lifted the ban imposed by the Confederation of African Football on Thursday.

The North-African nation was expelled from the 2017 and 2019 tournaments and was fined $1 million by the CAF, which also demanded a further $9 million in compensation, after the country pulled out because of the Ebola epidemic.

CAIRO -- The Confederation of African Football said on Tuesday it had rejected an appeal by Tunisia against a $50,000 fine for violent conduct by its players at the African Nations Cup.

However, CAF did not ban the North African country from the next edition of the tournament -- as it had threatened to do -- after the Tunisian Football Federation made a "a formal apology" for accusing CAF of being biased against it.

The case related to an African Cup quarterfinal match on Jan. 31, when a disputed...

FIFA expels Zimbabwe from 2018 World Cup qualifying

ZURICH -- Zimbabwe's football federation said it will appeal after their national team was thrown out of 2018 World Cup qualifying on Thursday for failing to pay their former national coach.

FIFA's disciplinary committee said it took the action "as a result of the non-payment of an outstanding debt" by Zimbabwe to coach Jose Claudinei Georgini, who left the job in 2008.

The decision was announced just as the first match in qualifying was kicking off in Asia. East Timor beat Mongolia 4-1.

Zimbabwe's...
