FIFA sets May 2017 to elect 2026 World Cup host

ESPN FC's Stuart Holden and Shaka Hislop discuss the latest decision made by FIFA that will see the first winter World Cup final set for Dec. 18 in Qatar.

ZURICH -- Before even agreeing on a kickoff date for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, FIFA has begun the search for a host in 2026.

FIFA put expected bidders Canada, Mexico and the United States on notice on Friday by setting May 2017 as a target to elect the host of a tournament which follows 32 years after the U.S. staged the event.

"Thirty-two years is a long time," Jeffery Webb, the president of the North American region, told The Associated Press. "I believe it is CONCACAF's time."

CONCACAF chief Jeffrey Webb says he'll push FIFA for 2026 vote

Prince Ali bin Al-Hussein insists the culture of intimidation at FIFA will not deter him from running for FIFA's presidency.
Former Portuguese international Luis Figo explained he feels it is time to give back to the world of football as he's recently decided to run for president of FIFA.

CONCACAF chief Jeffrey Webb reiterated the reasons he'll back the region's nations to host the 2026 World Cup for the first time since 1994.

Mexico, Canada and the United States have all expressed interest in floating bids.

Webb, a FIFA vice president, favors an early start to the 2026 bidding process because of the complicated football calendar from a governance perspective.

"I think the opening stages of the process have to begin now, in 2015, with the end being in 2017," Webb told SportBusiness...

United States U-20 Men's National Team head coach Tab Ramos speaks from the USMNT training camp in Florida ahead of his side's trip to the 2015 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, which runs from Jan. 9-24 in Jamaica.

MIAMI -- Just eight months after the 2014 World Cup final in Brazil, the Bahamas will play Bermuda in March in one of seven pairings as qualifying starts for the 2018 tournament in Russia.

The governing body for North and Central America and the Caribbean held the first draw Thursday night.

The other first-round pairings are Barbados-U.S. Virgin Islands; Belize-Cayman Islands; British Virgin Islands-Dominica; Curacao-Montserrat; Turks and Caicos Islands-St. Kitts and Nevis; and Nicaragua-Anguilla.

CONCACAF qualifier to start in November 2016

CONCACAF changed its World Cup qualifying dates after FIFA eliminated international fixture dates for February and August 2017.

MIAMI -- The start of the final round of World Cup qualifying in North and Central America and the Caribbean will be moved up by three months to November 2016.

The hexagonal will start Nov. 7-15, 2016, and run through Oct. 2-10, 2017, CONCACAF said on Monday. Since the 1998 World Cup, the final round had begun in February or March of the...

Theo Zwanziger: Europe could lose World Cup berth to Africa

FIFA executive committee member Theo Zwanziger has revealed that Europe are set to lose a starting berth at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
FIFA president Sepp Blatter backed moving the 2022 World Cup from the June-July time slot.

Europe are set to lose a starting berth at the 2018 World Cup, FIFA executive committee member Theo Zwanziger has revealed.

According to the former German Football Association [DFB] president, Africa could profit from Europe's loss as the confederation is believed to be unfairly represented on football's most elite stage.

At the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, 13 European nations and five African nations competed for the biggest title in world football. The Asian confederation [AFC] was awarded 4.5 starting...
